In onore ai 30 anni dalla pubblicazione di “The Joshua Tree”, quinto album in studio degli U2 e loro pietra miliare – che usciva proprio come oggi, il 9 Marzo 1987 – dal 2 Giugno 2017 sarà disponibile una nuova edizione celebrativa distribuita dalla Island Records.
Oltre agli 11 brani dell’album versione remaster, l’edizione Super Deluxe da collezione includerà una registrazione del concerto al Madison Square Garden (“Joshua Tree Tour”, 1987), rarità e B-side dalle session di registrazione originali dell’album, più i nuovi remix di Daniel Lanois, St Francis Hotel, Jacknife Lee, Steve Lillywhite e Flood. La confezione sarà arricchita da un libro di 84 pagine rilegate con copertina rigida e fotografie mai viste prima, scattate da The Edge durante la photosession del 1986 nel deserto di Mojave.
Lanciato da singoli di successo come “With Or Without You”, ” I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” e “Where The Streets Have No Name”, “The Joshua Tree” ha raggiunto la vetta della classifica nel Regno Unito, negli Stati Uniti, ovviamente in Irlanda e in tutto il mondo, vendendo oltre 25 milioni di copie dell’album (uno dei più belli e importanti della storia del rock) e catapultando Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton e Larry Mullen Jr “… da eroi a superstar” come scrisse Rolling Stone. Nel mese di Aprile del 1987 il Time ha messo gli U2 in copertina e nei 12 mesi successivi i quattro si sono ritrovati protagonisti di momenti memorabili tra cui la realizzazione del video “Where The Streets Have No Name”, girato sul tetto di un negozio di liquori di Los Angeles e vincitore del Grammy,. Gli U2 hanno poi anche vinto un Brit e altri due Grammy, tra cui quello per il miglior “Album dell’Anno” primo di una serie di 22 (fino ad oggi …). Il ritorno a casa è stato trionfale per culminare in 4 indimenticabili spettacoli a Belfast, Dublino e Cork, nell’estate del 1987.
“The Joshua Tree” è stato prodotto da Brian Eno e Daniel Lanois. La registrazione ha avuto luogo a Dublino negli studi Windmill Lane e Danesmoate, che in seguito sono diventati la casa del bassista Adam Clayton.

Il Tour 2017 del 30° Anniversario di “The Joshua Tree” partirà da Vancouver il 12 Maggio 2017, dando il via a una serie di date negli stadi in tutto il Nord America e in Europa, con due spettacoli sold-out al Twickenham Stadium l’8 e il 9 Luglio, precursore di uno spettacolo a Dublino, città natale degli U2, al Croke Park, il 22 Luglio. Gli U2 torneranno in Italia il 15 e 16 Luglio allo Stadio Olimpico di Roma per due spettacoli che già si preannunciano indimenticabili. Ogni concerto proporrà tutte le canzoni di “The Joshua Tree”, e avrà come “special guests” alternativamente Mumford & Sons, One Republic e The Lumineers per il Nord America e NOEL GALLAGHER’S HIGH FLYING BIRDS in Europa.
